Tank cleaning installations utilise very sophisticated wastewater treatment plants to reduce
any pollution as much as possible and is an essential link in the logistic chain, because it avoids
dedicated transport of liquids.
Dedicated transport means that always the same product is transported in a tank implying an
empty return to the loading place after unloading and means the double km driven for transporting
the same volume.
The calculations below make the difference between an average tank cleaning consuming 2 m³
hot water with 285 km empty return km of a truck in case of dedicated transport.
The CO2 emissions are calculated with the CO2 parameters (WTW) of the GLEC Framework.
Finally the total CO2 emission saved per year is calculated for all tank cleanings done in Europe
assumed to be at least 4.250.000 cleanings per year (based on the number of ECD’s used)
